It seems we were right yesterday, parts (251 mb for US and 260 mb for EU) of the patch 2.4 can now be downloaded via the background downloader. It means that a good part of 2.4 data is finalized; the patch could be released between 2 weeks and 1 month, but that’s simply a guess based on previous patches.
Some data on background downloader and previous patches:
- 2.1 was on the background downloader for 11 days before it was released on live servers.
- Patch 2.2 was on background downloader for a little more than a month.
- Patch 2.3 was 12 days.
Last month, a Virginia Tech student was found dead in the Target parking lot of the Christiansburg, Virginia store with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. His name was Daniel Kim, a 21-year old senior at the university. Unfortunately, some individuals have already started making assumptions that somehow his death was related to and possibly caused by gaming.
After doing a little research, I discovered that gaming is actually the one thing in his life that gave him a chance to live. Daniel was an avid Warcraft player who had developed numerous friendships playing the game over the past couple of years. The only warning signs that he was on the edge came in the form of emails sent to the university from various WoW players who were concerned for his safety. Unfortunately, little action was taken from the warnings and as we all know, Daniel Kim is now dead.
This was an unfortunate and probably preventable tragedy. It’s also unfortunate that some people will try to blame games when gaming may have been the only positive thing going on in his life. Online multiplayer games have a social aspect that the media simply does not understand. You create bonds with people you have never seen in real life. When it’s the middle of the night and there’s no one to talk to in person, there’s always a gamer somewhere online who will talk. When things are heavy on my mind, I often fire up the Xbox 360 and play some “big team battle” with my Halo 3 friends. I’ve never met any of them in real life, but I consider them true friends. I think one of the major problems with the media right now is that they simply do not see the overall kindness and generosity most gamers have in their hearts. As gamers, we do talk a lot of smack, but that’s honestly part of the fun. In the end, I truly believe that most hard-core gamers are good people with kind natures. Continue reading »
最近The9人事动荡，CFO走人了，股票也跟着跌了，估计撑不了多久了… 但是玩家呢？玩家又得到了什么？无限的lag，无限的排队(近期这个排队issue有所改进，完全是因为大学生放寒假)．就着这个trojan, virus, backdoor, spyware横生的年代，玩个游戏也不太平．动不动就在raid的时候看到有人突然就hearth然后vent上面狂吼＂我被盗号了！可是我有密保卡阿！这怎么回事儿！＂莫高一尺，道高一丈阿朋友．The9估计也是真的没什么办法了，这不连公司上VPN用的TOKEN也开始发售了，用RSA SecurID玩WoW是不是有点夸张了… 100块一个，叫什么安全令牌… 我真晕…

这个星期Patch 2.3在欧美全面上线了，Patch Note can be found at here and undocumented changes at here. 但其实2.3的bug还是蛮多的，首先Shaman只要attuned to BT/HY就可以直接去不用token换取T6 restro set，之后很多respawn timer的问题 (比如说Skald的Fire Elementals) 出现了大量grinding farm的情况(Chinaman farming style FTW!) 不过CWoW2.3的到来还是要有一段时间的，虽然在The9的官方网站也出现了一个潜行的Vindicator (S3 PVP non-set items) 装备的链接。估计月底还是有希望上线的。Zul’Aman的这个70的ZG估计很快会变成新时代G团的追捧对象。还是去PVE一下子，攥一下Badge of Justice，然后期待CWoW自己的2.3的到来吧… (其实我更期待S3)
The9终于行动了。在PVE contents被完全clear之后，竞技场挑战赛终于出炉。宅男们又要激动不已，行动吧… 我倒是要看看用S1算分方式拿S2 GEAR的CWoW PvPers能有什么好的表现。另外，一个Ladder排名的表格也出现在了CWoW官方网站，做点简直就是垃圾。没有Armory就用这个东西来糊弄人，CWoW真的太令人失望了。不过我还是期望能看到强大的站队打出完美的比赛。Good Luck，宅男们… More Info. on this can be found here
第七天堂和星辰为了抢这个CWoW FD可花了不少心思。我每天上班都在无事时候去看nga和wowar上面的宅男们对这两个工会PVE progression的追踪报道和那些兴奋、期待、嘲笑、鄙视的各种回帖。这个星期先是有人爆料两个工会对会员的苛刻待遇要求，很搞笑，其实国外的工会也都是这个样子的，serious PVE一定要有个这么serious的工会。之后又出现拉某星辰工会宅男帐号被hack lol，貌似是其off-tank，哎呀… 可怜的在网吧玩游戏的宅男们… Anyways，联盟工会第七天堂笑到了最后，再经过一晚上wipe在phase3之后，他们昨天晚上终于成功击杀Illidan Stormrage拿到了整个中国魔兽世界的又一个FD。而且掉落还是相当不错的，包括了一个Legendary Weapon: Warglaive of Azzinoth (off-hand) 我好无聊，跑去WorldofRaid注册了一个账户，把这个新闻转发了，Teza还回复了，晕，如果我是个地地道道的宅男估计现在要兴奋得昏倒，可惜… 我不是 lol. 美服/欧服都已经在期待Season 3的到来的时候，我们国人在干什么呢？在等到了 “迟到的远征”之后大家现在又在等待什么呢？不知道等到The9开始国服Arena的时候会是什么情况？会是Season2吗？大家都会去3+2搭配自己的gear,外加Season2的武器以及散件，但是那个时候欧美应该已经在enjoy their Season3了。会是Season3吗？大家现在就开始farm Honor Points留着买Season1的装备咯，而且Personal Rating的引入制约了很多想‘刷’、‘混’的想法。但是无论最后到来的是S2 or S3大家都很清楚TBC的delay已经让国服的Arena不再可能balance了。
